Kalico Jack

Kalico Jack è un collettivo fondato da quattro illustratrici che hanno cominciato a collaborare durante la frequentazione dell’ISIA di Urbino (2017-2019).
Giulia Dall’Ara, Benedetta Fasson, Rebecca Fritsche e Alessia Tzimas ricordano di essersi sedute ad un tavolo coperto da un grande foglio bianco e di essersi messe a disegnare ad occhi chiusi, usando “l’altra mano”, quella che solitamente non usavano. Da questa sorta di esperimento uscirono idee sovrapposte, quasi dei movimenti, nasce da qui, come una conseguenza diretta, l’idea dell’animazione; è di animazione, infatti, che Kalico Jack si occupa.
Quattro menti che esprimono idee, interazioni animate, illustrazioni a otto mani hanno deciso di darsi questo nome: Kalico Jack, il pirata che fece entrare nella sua ciurma ben due donne sfatando il mito della donna che porta sfortuna a bordo di una nave, testimoniando così la volontà di “disordinare” l’idea comune ed essere rivoluzionarie nei loro progetti.
Benedetta Fasson nasce nel ’92 a Verona. Ha studiato Decorazione all’Accademia di Venezia, dopodiché ha conseguito la Laurea Magistrale in Illustrazione all’ISIA di Urbino.
Giulia Dall’ara nasce a Rimini nel ‘92. Ha studiato Pittura all’Accademia di Urbino e, rimanendo sempre nella stessa città, ha conseguito la Laurea Magistrale in Illustrazione all’ISIA di Urbino.
Rebecca Fritsche nasce a Milano nel ‘94. Ha studiato Design del Prodotto Industriale a Genova, dove vive, e successivamente ha conseguito la Laurea Magistrale in Illustrazione all’ISIA di Urbino.
Alessia Tzimas nasce nel ’92 a Corfù. Ha studiato Design del Prodotto Industriale a Palermo e successivamente ha conseguito la Laurea Magistrale in Illustrazione all’ISIA di Urbino.
Il Collettivo si occupa di animazione tradizionale, frame-by-frame, declinando le proprie creazioni in vari ambiti: Video Clip, Corti Animati, Pubblicità. La caratteristica principale è data da una fascinazione viscerale per il suono (musica e campionamenti sonori) e il suo incontrarsi e intrecciarsi con le illustrazioni in movimento. Questi sono diventati il motore principale dei progetti del collettivo Kalico Jack. Dai primi visual-performance ai festival di animazione, il collettivo, si fa guidare dal ritmo e dall’amore per la sperimentazione.

Kalico Jack is a Collective founded by four female illustrators that have begun to collaborate during their time at University (2017-2019), at ISIA in Urbino.
Giulia Dall’Ara, Benedetta Fasson, Rebecca Fritsche e Alessia Tzimas sat down around a table completely covered by a big white sheet and they started to draw with their eyes closed, using “the other hand”, the one they don’t usually use. From this experiment, ideas were superimposed to create images that were almost in motion, and as a direct consequence is born the idea of the animation, because that's what Kalico Jack is about: Animation.
Four minds expressing ideas, animated interactions, illustrations made by eight hands, have decided to give them this name: Kalico Jack, the pirate’s name who brought two women on his sailing ship, dispelling the alleged misfortune of having women on board. This reason testifies to the desire to “mess up” the common idea and to be revolutionary in their work.
Benedetta Fasson was born in 1992, in Verona, Italy. At first, she graduated in Decoration from the Art Academy of Venice, then she took a Master’s Degree in Illustration from ISIA in Urbino.
Giulia Dall’Ara was born in 1992 in Rimini, Italy. At first, she graduated in Painting from the Art Academy of Urbino, then she continued to study in Urbino but at ISIA, and she took Master’s Degree in Illustration.
Rebecca Fritsche was born in 1994 in Milan, Italy. At first, she graduated in Design of Industrial Products from the University of Genoa, where she lives, then she took a Master’s Degree in Illustration from ISIA in Urbino.
Alessia Tzimas was born in 1992 in Corfu, Greece. At first, she graduated in Design of Industrial Product from the University of Palermo, then took a Master’s Degree in Illustration from ISIA in Urbino.
The Collective deals with traditional animation made frame-by-frame, to create Video Clips, Short Animation Films, or Publicity Animations. The members share a deep and visceral passion for music and sound, and the moment when these join with the moving images. These reasons have become the energy of the collective Kalico Jack to make their projects. From the first Visual Performance in Bologna up to the Animation Festivals, the Collective is led by the rhythm and the love for experimentation.
